Kate Torgovnick graduated from Jordan High School in our very own Durham. Her career path in journalism began as she wrote for her school’s newspaper, Falcon’s Cry. After graduating from Barnard College at Columbia, she eventually became the associate editor at Jane Magazine for four years (all after years of interning at Jane). Her articles covered health, relationships, and entertainment. For a period of time she was an editor at Dame, a resource for knowledgeable, urban women. Currently, she works for “The Frisky” a similar online resource for women, working on the pop culture segment of the site.
Ms. Torgovnick’s first book entitled “Cheer,” is an investigative work of nonfiction that uncovers the obsessive world of competitive cheerleading. The new series on the CW, Hellcats, featuring Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale is based off this book.
Some of Ms. Torgovnick’s articles have appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, Page Six Magazine and British Glamour. She continues to work at The Frisky and write more nonfiction. Hopefully we’ll see another book from her soon!
